Question #1:

Can I sue my grandfather for tuition money he promised and the charge of fraud on my record?

Its a long story please hear me out :)

Ok so my grandfather promised me 1st year of colleges tuition on a birthday card that he signed. My mother paid my tuition with two separate credit cards and expected the money reimbursed He gave us trouble with sending the check as if he didnt trust us. Then finally sent the check with my name and my schools name. Assuming that he made a mistake i texted his cell phone clearly stating that he made a mistake but i would explain my situation to the teller in hopes that she would cash it. I received no answer. Later that day i went to the bank and they did cash it. I texted his cell phone telling him of my success and he got angry saying i should have givin it to the school. I was not aware that the school would give me my money back. I explained what i thought to him and then asked why he didnt tell me not to try to cash it when i texted him. He argued and hung up on several different family members on several different occasions. Called and complained to my bank and took the money back causing them to think it was fraud and close my account and add a $40 fee. I did not lie to anybody or sign the check as somebody else i told the teller the whole story she was a little old lady who barely looked at the check. I Would Like to know if i can sue my grandfather for my tuition, And what i can do about the fraud on my bank account, i would honestly like to sue him for that too if possible because if i dont pay the $40 dollars they charged for research Fraud will be on my record for 7 years.

I will provide more information if asked about it but i promise that i did nothing to deserve any of this. I told him specifically that my mother paid the tuition and that i just needed to pay her back. Overall i am pretty sure he just did not want to pay it and well he should have just said that, I never asked him for his money he came flaunting it around at my birthday party. I did not intentionally trick anybody i explained to the teller that there were two names. My grandfather said he was going to get the lady fired and when i went into my bank to find out about my charges i noticed she was not there. I need lots of legal advise and would very much like to bring him to court he is in africa now however so i may have to wait I live in New York,USA and the money was $1850 for my community college tuition.
well i have never gotten a 2 party check before and i was told my an advise column writer after explaining my situation that the teller would understand. It was a check to me and my school i was unsure of how to cash it, and i asked the teller and she did. I dont see how i had bad judgment i just asked the teller and she cashed it shouldnt she know?
I didnt say anything about your answer even though its true i dont like it but i dont feel like you understand how much i dont know about this crap, i asked him why he didnt tell me not to cash it by myself when i texted him and he said because he trusted the bank to not cash it... idk what you mean by i have no credibility...but i just graduated highschool this year and im 18 and very new to all of this i did not try to be whiny, and he is in the wrong for what he did you are the first person who has said that he was right but maybe i didnt make things clear enough. He hung up on me my mother and my other grandfather after we tried to talk to him. You cannot tell me that i am the only problem here.
Thank you Brian. And i really dont know how to feel about my grandfather because now due to "bad judgment" i have fraud on my record...he was not thinking of how much he loved me when he did that. but atleast you helped in a less insulting way lol...
ok calm down big guy you are still arguing with me and ive already excepted that you are not going to help and somebody has already answered my question without picking sides, being that i am immature i obviously dont want to hear how im the one wrong, but i respect your answer if you feel that way. i did not judge you or your character by your answer so why are you saying all of this about me? i do not like the situation im in and am feeling very spiteful towards him because he is my problem here. i asked for help and u called me whiny and said i have no credibility because you know me so well..., end of discussion.

Question #2:

Question why do Americans and British take credit for most scientific and technical accomplishments which were?

actually done by Germans, Russians, French etc?? I think it's a disgrace to the global scientific community that the USA and Great Britain set the standards. Let's face it the Germans, French and others did far more yet they don't receive credit. I am Indian (Hindu from North India) by the way. I have nothing against Americans, just find you people a tad bit intellectually challenged.

Question #3:

Looking for the name of a US TV show that dealt with people who overspent...?

The host was a once bankrupt himself and would help people financially plan and budget. He would always write with a huge black marker on big pieces of paper when writing figures. He would make them cut up their credit cards and give them a budget to live on. He drove a unique vehicle, from memory a big truck. This show was on USA tv about 3-4 years. Does anyone remember it?

Question #4:

How do I report a scam?

I applied to numerous jobs on Craigslist and got this letter two days later. It is totally a scam and would like to know how and to who to report it to. It is so disappointing to really need a job and get this, or worse how many people actually fall victim to these scams.

Thank you for you input.

Question #5:

Foreign tax credits - Do I get to claim them for double taxation agreement?

I have taxable income in the USA of $10000. 2000dollars of the total comes from Italy.

When it comes to paying tax, I have to pay tax on $10,000 in the USA on my worldwide income and since I am a resident for tax in Italy as well, I have to pay tax on $2000 in Italy. BUT I receive a tax rebate on this $2000 in Italy, so I effectively pay no tax in Italy.

Does this rebate also carry over into the USA and I get to claim it and only pay tax on $8000 in the USA? Or do I have to pay tax on $10000 dollar still?

Question #6:

Question #7:

what are some of Obamas accomplishments?

Passing stimulus, generating jobs. On February 17, 2009, Obama signed the $787 billion stimulus bill into law. In December 2009, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office issued a report estimating that "in the third quarter of calendar year 2009, an additional 600,000 to 1.6 million people were employed in the United States" due to that legislation. According to the White House Council of Economic Advisers, CBO has increased its estimate to 800,000 to 2.4 million additional employed through the fourth quarter of that year. Moreover, a November 20, 2009, New York Times article reported that the "consensus" among "dispassionate analysts" is that "the stimulus package, messy as it is, is working," citing nonpartisan analyses of gross domestic product and total employment figures by several companies specializing in economic forecasting. Further, a January 25 USA Today article stated that, according to its "quarterly survey of 50 economists," "[u]nemployment would have hit 10.8% -- higher than December's 10% rate -- without Obama's $787 billion stimulus program," adding, "The difference would translate into another 1.2 million lost jobs."

Eliminating wasteful spending. Obama was able to achieve some significant cuts to wasteful spending -- most notably, the elimination of the F-22 fighter jet program after he successfully lobbied the Senate to vote to strip out financing for more jets from a defense funding authorization bill. The Washington Times reported on January 14 that Obama won "60 percent of his proposed cuts" and also managed "to get Congress to ax several programs that had bedeviled President George W. Bush for years."

Sotomayor nomination. On May 26, 2009, Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court to replace the retiring Justice David Souter. She was confirmed by the Senate on August 6, 2009, and sworn in August 8, making her the first Hispanic justice, and only the third woman, on the court.

Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. The first bill President Obama signed into law, on January 29, 2009, was the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which expands the rights of workers to sue employers over wage discrimination claims.

SCHIP expansion. On February 5, 2009, Obama signed a bill expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to cover 4 million more lower-income children.

Public lands bill. On March 30, Obama signed an omnibus public lands bill, which The New York Times reported "allows for 2 million more acres to be declared wilderness... [with] more than 1,000 miles designated as scenic rivers, and adds land for national trails."

Credit card reform. On May 21, 2009, Obama signed into law a bill providing what USA Today called the "most sweeping changes to the credit card industry in 40 years," adding restrictions on interest rate increases and fees and restricting the marketing of credit cards to college students.

Transparency. The Washington Post reported that moves by the Obama administration to improve government transparency "included a ban on lobbyist gifts; restrictions on the hiring of lobbyists; publication of White House visitor logs and other records; and a move to bar lobbyists from serving on advisory boards." A report by Common Cause, Democracy 21, the League of Women Voters, and U.S. PIRG stated that: "The cumulative effect of the Administration's actions has been to adopt the strongest and most comprehensive lobbying, ethics and transparency rules and policies ever established by an Administration to govern its own activities."

Tobacco regulation. On June 22, 2009, Obama signed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which, for the first time, gave the U.S. Food & Drug Administration the authority to regulate the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of tobacco.

National service. On April 21, 2009, Obama signed the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which expands the scope of AmeriCorps and provides opportunities for young people and senior citizens to join in service programs.
Opie who is that photo? So so so cute!

Question #10:

Would Canadians agree it wasn't just USA that ended World War 2?

Because something just doesn't seem right to me the way some of my people in the states depict World War 2.

You would think Nazi Germany was taking over everything and then the world was screwed, then the USA, stepping into Europe only for the second time ever (only other time being the World War I)

Just one-power nation heroically saved the world and then the whole world said "Thank you United States of America!"

And then the rest of the World including Canada said "USA is a hero, from now on till forever, we will do everything America says."

Then USA said, "Lets create a United Nations.....and then there was a United Nations......

Then all of the democracy and everything culturally that is Canadian and European was not really from any other source but the United States of America because USA saved the World WWII.....

There are soooo many people in my country, USA, who believe this.... of course they wouldn't give the Soviets credit for this because they were commies....

but what about Canada that joined the war against Hitler in 1939? Is it really true everything was hopeless till USA saved the World? I then found literature on the Canadian army's workings in WWII Poland and I question this mentality

of these people who argue the U.S. is not required to keep in touch with the world, the world is expected to keep in touch with the USA because USA saved the world World War II and therefore they owe themselves to the USA.
Lets put it this way. If the USA was the only country that acted against Hitler in World War II, would Hitler have still lost?
What about Canada's backing of Britain during the bombing raids in London? Did that help defeat Hitler by turning his neck Eastwards instead of to the West?

Question #16:

Why is everyone talking about all the Red Sox injuries?

I'm watching the USA-Slovenia basketball game in ESPN2, and during their promo for Sunday Night Baseball, the broadcasters talked again about how amazing the Red Sox have done with all their injuries. Why does no one give the Yankees and Joe Girardi get any credit for how well they've done despite all their injuries? We've lost A-Rod, Pettitte, Aceves and Marte for big parts of this season, and Lance Berkman and Nick Johnson are also DL'ed, plus we're probably going to be without Teixeira for a few more games.

Question #19:

USA traveler renting car in New Zealand. What's the best car insurance?

My wife and I are traveling to New Zealand this September and renting a car for 2-weeks. We found out that our USA car insurance does not cover automobiles in New Zealand. I also checked American Express (my credit card) and they too do not offer any type of coverage in New Zealand. We are renting our car from Hertz but the insurance through them is super expensive.

Does anybody have a suggestion on temporary car insurance in New Zealand? Also, feel free to offer any other advice about renting cars and driving in New Zealand.

Thanks a lot!
